Side stand switch…. Mot fail?

NuttyNook

Question

Afternoon all, question to those with greater knowledge than I

after having many issues with the side stand switch crapping out I added the bypass plug… no issues since.

bike has just had its service and first mot and the mot tester ‘failed’ the bike as the side stand switch was not working, then passed it on the proviso that my dealer order and fit a new switch!?….

Any thoughts?

Removed my switch last year. Bike went through its first mot this year with no issues.

Do you still have the switch fitted but just bypassed?

Sometimes things can fail if fitted but don’t function, for example indicators. If the complete switch has been removed then I can’t see an issue.

It's annoying, but I think you'll have to follow the MOT requirements - but I'd install a new one by myself.

Keep the bypass plug for emergencies.

That’s the trouble, I’ve spoken to another tester who says it’s not a requirement 🤔

What's the worst thing that can happen if you don't fix it? Asking because in Germany this might lead to losing insurance protection in case of an accident. How about the UK?

If the switch is getting damaged maybe try this

Features: Stronger Protection-Made from 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, sturdy enough to protect the vulnerable kickstand switch of the motorcycle from damage or wear in the event of a collision with obstacles, greatly extend...

Yeah, unfortunately you got a real jobsworth there.  My old tenere has all this starter circuit removed and the MOT men never look at it.  They usually catch me out with having no rear reflector !!
