Fuel Gauge not Reading

DangerBeach

Question

Recently my digital readout for fuel level has been doing the following: on startup, blinks "full" several times then shows "empty" for a while. Then blinks full a few times then shows empty.

I've run the tank dry and refilled. I pulled the tank and fuel pump, pulled the float arm and tested the resistance over the range of output. All in spec.

My thought is it must be a faulty connection up at the gauge cluster? Or a busted connection between the plug on the fuel pump and the cluster?

Any thoughts?

If you haven't figured it out yet, you might try measuring resistance between ground and the pin at the dash with the float plugged in (48 -> 57). That might turn something up if there's a problem in between...

A friend had the same problem and I don't think he ever traced it down. There's a chance that there are small fluctuations in the resistance that your multimeter won't pick up but does present problems for the dash. I've had this happen with other sensors before.

I'm jealous, they didn't have clear in stock when I ordered mine. I think the gas would stay a lot cooler in clear.

How are you liking the larger tank? Any center of gravity change you've noticed?
