Hi All,

Newbie to the forum.

First I just want to say hello all to my fellow riders, it’s great to be here learning from you all.

I won’t bore you with the details but today with brake in the wet weather and a little green lane exploration planned, I went for it.

Needless to say it was wet and very slippery with the stock tyres, I dropped the PSI And found a little grip but not enough to keep me going in a straight line.

After twisting the throttle to much I found myself facing in the other direction horizontal. Yes, I binned on only my forth outing.

Damage report.... bent exhaust hanger and almost doubled rear brake pedal.

The hanger I can deal with and have bent it true again, fortunately the akropovic didn’t even get a scratch but I’d pushed it in so much it rubbed on the swing arm and tuck some black paint off. 👍😢

The issue I have is the brake pedal, really, why are they soooo soft?

Anyways my failure to re shape back to optimum functionality leaves me wondering what‘s available. Any ideas other than the standard which I’m sure will not survive my mischief will be greatly appreciated.

Best regards.

Hi there

you could fit a brake saver, its a small length of steel wire with a loop in each end, that will stop it bending !

i did see one specific for the T7 so if you hunt around. But it looks like this.

Hi Pal,

Thanks for the reply. Ive seen these before from my enduro days and definitely something that I was considering. However today caught me off guard and put me on the deck and has bent/twisted the brake pedal already.

Anyone know if Rally Raid, adventure spec or others are developing some quality aftermarket bling that actually withstands a little mistreatment, besides this is what the bikes made for.

Welcome to the Forum. Most enduro men know any harder pedals will just snap-off. Hence soft bendable. It's an ADV bike not a Green-Lane Rocket Racer, get a KLX450R for that. Yep wire it.

Hi Rich,

Here is a picture of my T7 with a DRC Brake Saver fitted to Touratech brake extension pad and B&B Offroad Bashplate.

Yeah, that’s definitely the way to do it.  Looks like I’m getting a new one from Yamaha as doesn’t appear to be any other options. If anyone hears otherwise let us know.

Thanks.

Bent my rear brake pedal this morning on my first backcountry ride. I hit a cow! I came around a turn and 3 cows were crossing the road. I locked up the rear brake and hit the front leg of one. It happened so fast I thought the foot peg hit, but later down the road I noticed the bent pedal.

Wow, that cow is in pain! What brand of pegs are those?

A homemade brake snake was an early addition after noting how suspiciously limp these pedals appear to be. The Camel ADV gut guard provided a perfect anchor hole. Gathers a few weeds occasionally, but no bent pedal yet. Not sure if there's any aftermarket upgrades available or not.

I'd make the cable shorter and mount it further back on the frame.  It hangs too low for my comfort.     Ride too close to a stump and catch it and you'll be stopping in a hurry.  Ask me how I know...

Thought I would resurrect this old thread to see if there are any after market rear brake levers released or if any other bikes rear brake lever fits (WR450 ?). Only one I can find is this one

FBH-YAM-T700-Bremspedal-Yamaha-Tenere-70

Foot brake pedal Yamaha Tenere 700 Replacement for a bend stock lever or as a spare part on the long trip. High quality OEM part Material: steel,…

 which is not exactly cheap....

@PaulCaveAny luck on replacing this? I am putting the OEM lever on now and wow, what a pain in the butt.

I have a brake snake on mine, but it still bends under hard braking.  I took mine off and welded all of those holes solid, should be harder to bend now.  Also there is a company working on a stronger brake pedal. Not gonna mention names as it's not my business to do so. They'll let the cat out of the bag if it works out.

No luck. I just put a couple of adjustable spanners (called nut fuckers for those in the trade apparently ) and bent it back approximately to the right place.

Looking forward to seeing what your source comes up with.  Mine got tweaked and although I straightened the arm, the pedal portion is fubar.

@AZJW it's a pain but you can straighten the toe piece. I've had to bend mine back before.
