Barkbuster equivalant?

Dakota

Recommended Posts

Hey all, TIL that the Barkbuster is not compatible with ASV levers, which is a total bummer. ASV levers are much deeper than stock levers (I didn't realize or pay attention when installing them), and as such, the Barkbusters aluminum bar is too close to install.

Anyone running an equivalent guard that they're fond of?

I do not have them, but some others have used HDB ultimate hand guards.

We've all heard it, some guy says they've tried them all and this handguard or that handguard is the best. We won't bore you with "we're the best", just compare theirs side by side with our HDB...

HDB ultimate hand guards. Super Skookum!

Attach to a nice billet top clamp for the bars. Available with flip out mirrors.
can be used with or without the stock bar ends.

Thanks for the photos. I love how they connect! Nice to know I can keep my bar end weights too[:

I'm back home this weekend and I can snag some pics for you. I also use renthal bars and I jerry rigged my barkbusters from a 310gs to fit them, so thats probably where the difference is.

I have ASV levers and Cycra Probend Ultra CRM guards.  It all fits with no interference.

Hello Gents,

The ASV levers can be made to work with Barkbusters by installing a spacer and longer bolt........see this previous thread:

I'll post pics tonight.  They are the ones that mount to the bar right next to the bar clamps.  They don't mount in place of the riser clamps.

I couldn't get it all to fit with stock bar ends, so I made my own with a 16mm hex head bolt that I drilled to accept the supplied expanding nut bolt.

There’s about 1-2mm clearance with the levers.

I run the Acerbis X Factor. They are super big, it was cold outside and I was in my off road gloves (Klim dakar) and I could not feel the cold air. My friend was constantly complaining on his, with Rukka Goretex gloves. Also dropped the bike off road, it does not have a single scratch. Super strong handguards.

I have run HDB handguards in the past. I had a pair on my F800 (with mirrors) and I loved em! I have a pair showing up in the mail tomorrow for the T7. I am in the camp of keeping stock levers w spares on dual sports. I had a nice set of $200 levers on my FJR but I've already broken a brake lever on the T7, probably due to those ridiculous "air guards" Yamaha has installed folding like a crepe.  I would be willing to look at a decent set of levers for this bike as long as they are  in the same price range as stock and play well with the cable clutch.

I had exactly the same issue with my barkbusters and asv levers back in march last year and the way i solved it was to use some of these.

ALUMINIUM SPACER 2011 T4 OD 16.0 ID 8.20 LENGTH 13.0mm M8 insert CNC TURNING | eBay

I hope this helps. i was going to sell the levers and guards and refit the OEM ones but found this solution really worked well

Cheers

Yeah, after reaching out to Pacific Powersports,  they told me they do in face have spacers. I order this, but in 20 mm, and it should be here tomorrow so i'll update here once it's all installed.

My 13mm spacers are a bit tight but they work so your 20mm should be fine.

Please let me know how you get on.

Cheers

Thanks.  They are great.  Image quality is perfect.  Install was easy ish but those handguards have some machined recesses to work around.  No big deal just add washers as needed.

Hey all, thanks to everyone who chimed in with help/suggestions.

As I said before, I was able to order spacers from pacificpowersports.com, and they just came in the mail and I got everything installed. With the exception of one of the bolts being wrong - everything went together much easier, and there is the clearance needed for the ASV shorty levers.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the cycra probend crm handguards and the cycra probend ultra crm handguards? Their website doesn't give much information and I can't find decent pictures to compare the two.

Wanted to make a response for people in the future looking into this issue so they don't run into the same issue as me

When using ASV Levers, Barkbusters will not fit unless you use spaces

The proper size on my setup is

20mm spacer for the clutch size

10mm spacer for the brake side (20mm & 15mm makes contact with the head unit at full turn)

Another thing to note I also have a Scotts Stabilizer installed along with a riser which may have caused this discrepancy

Hopefully this helps future people
