Chain roller upgrade

Canadian-t7

Recommended Posts

2 things that bothered my even on my first ride was the floppy kickstand and noisey chain rollers. I did a quick measurement on the factory rollers then ordered 2x all balls sealed chain rollers. (Application is an 04 cr250, 04-17 250x p# 79-5010) I used the 2 shims from the lower roller on the foot peg side(inside) and the supplied washer on the outside. The upper roller I had to find an 8mm washer to shim the inside then the supplied washer on the outside. Reused the factory bolts and nuts. Can't test ride until I get my ecu back, I'll update later on noise level.

Great.  Thanks for the tip.  When I look at this part on Amazon, it says it is not compatible, but with your recommendation, I am thinking of ordering two of these in black for my bike.

Hello, I installed a chain slider from KTM below. They last longer than any chain roller. Above I installed a chain roller with ball bearings.

@gnortz, can you provide links to the products you bought?  I would like to check them out before I buy anything.

Auf Lager! POLISPORT Kettenschleifer unten passt an KTM SX SXF EXC EXC-F SMR 07-11 schwarz. Versandkosten ab 1.90 Euro. Weitere POLISPORT Kettenführung, Kettenschleifer sind...

There is guaranteed also in Amiland. 😁 The part makes little or no noise. It must be in the middle under the chain. If necessary, even out with washers.

Just got mine in in blue.
Had some annoying vibration in the footpegs sometimes and this weekend i'm working on the bike including a fresh chain so a good moment to upgrade the chain roller.
Might fix the vibrations as it is mounted in the same bracket.

Hey!

Just wondering if this solved the chain noise or not? Any feedback?

So am I!

Just re-greased my OEM rollers, but I don't expect it to solve the problem.

Am not sure if I mounted the shims on the lower roller correctly, couldn't find it in the service manual.

Is it both shims next to each other between roller and locking nut? I dropped one shim when dismounting it, no idea where it was. I know, it's not that important probably, but I still want to know 😅

BTW,no additional washers on the rollers on my T7. Especially none on the upper roller.

I've changed to after market one and it's zero difference. So after 2 days I've put back OEM one. Guess we need to live with this sound and it's normal

Thanks, good to know!

However, regreasing (using bicycle bearing lube) worked quite well for me.

I exchange upper and lower roller against each others and applied a generous amount of grease to the axles. The noise definitely got less, especially the rattling/whizzing.

I bought and fitted the same roller as the OP but I find that it doesn't rotate effortlessly as it should given it has ball bearings. When I try to rotate it by hand, I have to apply quite some force and I'm afraid it will drag the transmission.

Can someone who has upgraded check theirs?

I fitted the Polisport slider for KTM and it completely fixed any noise.

Huge upgrade IMO. The only thing left to hear is the chain itself.

You can find rollers in different colors, diameters and width on e.g. amazon

These are the blue ones on my bike.

I ordered KTM chain slider from slmracing off ebay Pt # 77303053010 for$11.64. This is a kit that comes with bolt.

Pt # 77303053000 is slider only. Ill post up when I get it installed.

With this reference I get this photo, it's not the same but it can be useful?  Pt # 77303053010

I used the original screw and it fits perfectly with the Polisport part. (Which I am quite certain is also the supplier to KTM in this case)
