Emgo topcase on RR tail rack

I may be the only one who cares about this but, after switching from Tusk hard bags to Hurricane soft bags, I found I missed my Emgo topcase on local errands.

Since I have the RallyRaid tail and side racks, I found a way to add the Emgo base plate to the Tail rack.

Disclaimer: This will probably not be well received by John at RR seeing his nice laser cut plates drilled and clearanced along with maybe overloading it.

I had to clearance out the slots in the tail rack to line up with the Emgo base plate.  Pilot drilled through the base plate to locate these.

Finished enlarging mounting holes.

Next I had to clearance the front of the base plate with a Dremmel disc so the washer under the M8x20 socket head bolt would fit.

After that I needed to clearance the underside of the base plate to allow for the RR rear mounting bolt and aluminum washer.

Here's a pic of the underside of the two plates bolted together. The rear mount bolt is the one without a nut.

That rear mount bolt needs to be sandwiched in between the tail rack and base plate before final assembly,  so I drilled an access hole (circled) to allow a 5m allen to reach that rear bolt.

The two front RR bolts and washers were replaced with two M8x20 socket heads and the original washers used between the tail rack and fixed nuts were retained.

Hardware used.

The finished product will accept the top case and also allow a soft side duffel to be strapped across the base plate if needed.

And yes, I made sure the seat can be removed without removing the base plate, but the topcase does need to be popped off first. The mount isn't super solid as it is after all a plastic base plate, but it'll work for my errand needs.

Anyway, an afternoon utilized or wasted depending on your view.  Hope it helps someone if they want a cheap topcase to work on a RR tail rack.
