Gen I Gut Guard mod

Having a first Generation Camel-ADV Gut Guard, I have been using the provided mounting bolts since I installed it in December of 2020.  AZ rocks have made a mess of the bottom mounting bolts, but luckily the internal torx of the Torx Hex flange M6 bolt was still intact, so I was able to remove the damaged bolts.

Cory @Camel ADV in keeping with his product improvement efforts, is now selling an improved version with recessed bolt wells that help protect these bolts.  For my Gen 1, I wanted to try something different to lower the profile of those bottom bolts that seem to attract the sharp AZ rocks I ride in.

I found some countersunk M6x25 Stainless Steel Torx bolts online that mate up with a countersunk tapered washers that I found, also online.

The Torx Hex Flange with washer is .277" high and the countersunk M6 and washer is .139" high.  This combination lowers the bolt profile by about half so I'm hoping this turns out to be a good idea and not a bad one.  Links below are for my sources with the only caveat being a 30mm countersunk torx bolt might be a better length as the countersunk washer takes a few mm of overall length away from the available thread depth.

I had the same issue with exposed bolts on the underside of an Enduro Engineering plate (different bike, same issue).  After I sheared off the second bolt head and replaced two that were bent I opted to countersink the plate to go with countersunk screws and have not had any troubles since.

@Windblown That'll be my next change if these don't work.

Button Flanged Machine Screws may be an option also (low head, big flange)....

The Gen 1 Gut Guard had exposed heads, they were countersunk in Gen 2.
