Agreed!  The floorjack method works, but will age you faster than your first solo flight! Added a sketchy disclaimer to the first post .... 😉

@williestreet

Would you kindly post some dimensions of your DIY spring compressor?  My guess is you used about 30" long pieces of 1/2" all thread and 1/4" aluminum plate about 10"x6"?  I know final dimensions are dependent on the bottle jack size, but a guesstimate as to materials needed would be helpful.  Thanks!

The bottom plate is 5"x 12", 1/2" aluminum plate.  Threaded rod is 5/8", 36" long.  You don't need them this long, but  I never felt the need to cut them down.

Bottle jack is around 6.5 inches when collapsed, fully extended around 12.5 inches, 2 tons capacity.

I have a few different top plates for different diameter springs, but the size is the same 5x12 inches.  On lighter springs you could get by with a slightly thinner plate, but you can see the plate bend on heavier springs.  I might stack a few top plates together or use one thick plate, but I always have at least 1/2 inch top plate thickness minimum.

My super tenere had a 1000lbs/inch spring and heavier is always better when springs get that stiff.
