High Exhaust

Danno

Recommended Posts

Did a 70 mile ride after the rains here.  Love the exhaust note, although I could use a little more 'tude/bark!  I'm thinking of going full on "swiss cheese" on the dB killer.  Currently only ~ the inner third is perforated with approximately 1/8" holes around its perimeter.  I'm thinking of finishing the job so the entire thing is perforated.  Even with the dB killer out, the bike is not obnoxiously loud, so a couple of more holes should give me the sound I want and keep Mr. Forest Service happy vis a vis a spark arrestor.  The mid pipe has taken on a really nice golden hue from the stainless color it started off with.

Overall I'm very happy with this mod, plus I think it looks bitching!

Done!

Thanks to  @RiderEh whose idea I essentially copied and for his tips and suggestions going forward, and @jdub53 for sharing and guidance.

The Tail Tidy and included turn signals (I don't like them and they are almost hidden) are all from the Tusk kit.

Black Widow 300 mm Black Stainless Carbon Tip Silencer.

Ali Express Midpipe (keeping the pillion foot pegs was mandatory as my wife signed off the purchase of the bike😄 and she enjoys cruising around town on the back).

Home Depot L bracket that I cut in half, bent to shape, drilled and painted.

Finished product:

I'm surprised to see the tusk tail tidy worked! I bought a cheap one off Aliexpress I plan on trying, and will relocate the blinkers lower under the exhaust if needed.

If I had used the AE supplied bracket, then yes it would have pulled the muffler up against the signal and pulled the muffler closer to the wheel.  I'm allowing space for a big knobby down the road so trying to plan for potential clearance issues.  The AE attachment is definitely more solid/rigid than what I'm using now.  I tried it but it clashed with the turn signal.

I was never quite happy with the flex in my high mount exhaust system and in my quest to address this I stumbled upon this bad boy:

Shop for Flags & Mounts, like Tusk Light Duty Roll Cage Clamp at Rocky Mountain ATV/MC. We have the best prices on dirt bike, atv and motorcycle parts, apparel and accessories and...

Bought it, and what do you know.... the threaded mounting hole on the clamp lines up perfectly with the bolt hole in the OEM exhaust hanger bracket.  Ran a bolt through (with a nut on the inside to clamp the bolt to the bracket) and  threaded it into the clamp.

The whole setup is SOLID now.  The muffler strap/home-made hanger bracket is still doing the heavy lifting, the addition of the clamp just braces everything and eliminates flex (with the exception of what the rubber bushing in the OEM hanger bracket allows  -probably a good thing).

I had the pipe from Huzar first and adopted the additional stance.

If you don’t mind me asking, what link pipe are you using?

From  @RiderEh post in Parts and Upgrades about his experience mounting a Black Widow high exhaust.  I used the same one.

I particularly like the photo with all the hardware on the ground lol. I'm going to buy that same bracket and give it a try. What handles and rear rack are you using? The handles look aluminum Aliexpress?

LOL!  I was rooting through my bolts stash looking for a bolt that was long enough!  The AE bracket you are using may lift the exhaust too high for the threaded mounting hole on the clamp to line up with the OEM hanger hole.

Ali Express on both the rack and handles:
