T7 90% offroad build

Canadian-t7

Recommended Posts

I'm not one to take a lot of pictures, but I'll try to document my build here. Picked the bike up on June 11th 2021. Rode it about 1.3km before pulling it apart and adding farkles.

Edit: it's built to be 90% dirt oriented,  I ride maybe 60-70% dirt. It's still used for regular street bike things, because it does things that dirtbikes can't do.

June 28th added the blindspot mirrors. Same ones you buy for your car that go in the corner of your side mirror. Used a heat gun and molded them to my handlebars, 3m tape plus a zip tie for good measure.

June 30th. Added sealed roller bearing chain rollers. Stock ones were crazy loud. Also Removed the factory chain guard.

July 28th had a bit of a run in with a tree. Broke the headlight, headlight mount plate(plastic), headlight mount (triangle metal one), cracked some plastics on the right side, shattered the left side headlight support brackets, shattered the speedo(crushed into the handlebars). Taped and jbwelded everything  back together. Straightened the headlight mount back out. Bought all new parts but only installed the speedo as it's gonna get dropped again, so I'd rather break already broken parts until they no longer function.

July 29th removed the suspension and dropped off at SSS (superior suspension settings) on August 3rd. Re installed revalved suspension  and took it for a test ride August 6th👌. I have a couple YouTube videos up, nothing crazy.

It’s cool what you’re doing but if it’s going to be a primarily off road bike why not pick a bike that’s actually good off road?
AKA KTM 500 or similar?

Once the pavement ends my 500 blows my T7 away in every way and it was cheaper.

No matter what you do it’s still going to be a heavy pig with mediocre suspension.

Sept 8th added Camel adv anti bobble head braces, and Camel adv side stand spring.  Relocated side stand safety switch, thanks Cory @Camel ADVfor the tip.

Lol, @mpatch simply because I can. I can also out ride most people on my T7.  even with the revalve the suspension is definitely the limiting factor. Boano racing suspension may be the next step. I have a ktm 200xc-w, had a ktm 690. 690 was not great on the road and couldn't really carry a passenger. I can definitely ride the 200 faster but I have more fun on the T7. I'm not the most sane person, it's why I do what I do.

Good Canadian lad right there LOL.

I just did that too... greasy clay, lost it on a down hill, put my chest into the GPS, the GPS hit the display and broke the LCD. The headlight nailed a stump when I dropped the bike. That got expensive fast!

@Camel ADVyou gonna start making a speedo cover, lol. I'll buy one for sure. I've been looking at rally dashes to move the speedo and put the gps in a more visible location while standing. Maybe the aurora kit, but it looks like it'll break if I look at it sideways. I replaced my speedo but left my taped up headlight on the bike until it breaks worse. All the new parts are still sitting in a box waiting.

I couldn't stomach replacing the headlight ($$$) as it's likely to get broken again. I'm working on an LED arrangement. It's f'n bright but lacking a low beam so I haven't been riding at night on the road.

I assume you change both rollers with this one? Apart from the AllBalls bearing rollers, any other mods required to fit them?

That's why mine is still sitting in a box. I'd like to see this new headlight arrangement,  it's gotta be lighter then then stock one too I would imagine. Your headlight got way more broken then mine, can't really tape that back together.

@Spuzvicayes both rollers. Only had to add 1 washer to one of them to space it away from the mount. Other then that straight swap. So much quieter.

@Camel ADVstacking something like 2x baja designs xl pro might be an option. It's just about 9inches from the windshield to the bottom of the headlight. I don't think 1 would be adequate, but maybe an xl pro and 2 s2 pros? Says they have a %50 dim feature?

Edit: can go even bigger with the xl80. I think I might try this. Build an all aluminum mount with stacked lights, like the old 990 adventure

I ordered 2x baja designs xl80's. I pulled out the headlight and mounting bracket. I'll start on building the new tower tonight. Something like the cyclops 690 tower but simpler.

Step 1 completed. Made bracket 1 of 3, headlights will have there own bracket, as will the speedo and gps. All welding will be done after mock up. Lights also arrived and I have figured out my wiring layout. It's complicated but not, at the same time.
