I haven't tested them in the water yet, but my Rev'It Expedition GTX boots are very comfortable while being nearly as protective as a motocross boot. They are reported to be quite waterproof.

I have the Low and really like them.  Super comfortable to walk and even hike in.  Im actualy interested in getting a high set to try out.

Here is a real life boots / protection situation:

Last year, took the T7 to the off road vehicle park (friend brought his quad)  and proceeded to have a great time.

This spring, same place same friend, I found some greasy mud.... which I always avoid.  I knew better.  Went through it anyway, tipped over to the right (was not going very fast) and couldn't get my right foot out of the way as the bike went down.  Smashed my right foot.

Boots - Alpinestars Corozal,  foot still sustained a significant crushing injury, xray shows no broken bones.   One way to look at this is the fact that I was wearing protective off - road boots, which probably saved me from broken bones in my foot.  The other way to see this is, why didn't the boots provide better protection, because my foot injury is no joke, and more serious than I originally thought.
