For street only, I use the Bell RS-2, i'd post a link but it's recently discontinued. Still a great helmet and I have the Bell Transitions shield that turns dark in sunlight, turns clear on sunny days. Once you ride with a transitions shield, you'll never want to ride without one. What are you guys using for ADV Helmets? Im looking at the Bell MX9 , because I can also order the transitions shield for it. In fact, this one comes with it already. So finally I've pulled the trigger (not literally, yet 😉) on a personal airbag system. I had avoided it until now simply because of costs, which was a bad decision, although I have been lucky and didn't crash yet (apart from the occasional slower-speed tipovers and embarassing foliage/ground contacts when going offroad). But since my bike build is more or less finished (we all know that's a lie), I am now upgrading my protective equipment as well. For me this always means digging really deep into the matter, absorbing as much info as possible on different products, making lists in my head and so on. Yes, I'm a bit crazy. Fortunately, on the topic of motorcycle airbags th…

When it comes to wind noise, my main problem is tinnitus. I actually dont mind the wind noise in itself as long as I can be certain that it does not damage my ears.. I have battling with tinnitus ever since I got my lisence 1 year ago and not sure if I should give up riding motorbikes or if I can find a way to keep my ears safe at the same time not activating my tinnitus. It all started when i was going to take my lisence. As a motocrosser in my past I was eager to finally get the lisence and get on the road to enjoy two wheel exploring. I took a course (because in Norway you need to take a 20 hour course manditory). They had a yamaha mt7 for …

Time for my Power Ranger getup.. lol This is what I currently wear and so do many of my ADV and MX motorcycle friends. Leatt has recently released their Body Protector 6.5 a few months back. Not as bulky and is more refined than their 5.5 series that is still available. Leatt Body Protector 6.5 is basically two pieces. A ventilated zippered compression suit with shoulder and elbow EN1621-1 (Level 1) armor and a kidney belt that can be worn under a Jersey or on top. Hard shell Chest protector with front, back, and both side armor EN1621-2 (Level 2) . Can be worn on the outside of the jersey and worn by itself wit…

I'm looking for an expert in hearing protection. EVERY time I come back from a ride, be it 20 mins or 8 hrs, my ears are ringing. I have tried every solution I know of, and still looking for more. The noise that does the damage is wind. My T7 is piped, but about about 80 km/h I can't hear it. That's when the wind starts to create problems. Some of the things I've tried: - Taller windshield (too much physical buffeting) - Shorter windshield (works better for me) - Winglets (stock seems better) - With mirrors or without - no difference - Helmet - Shoei GT Air, GT Air 2, RF1200, Klim Krios - Little difference other than the RF1200 is the quiet…

I was run into by an ATV and the impact did $4300 worth of front end damage. I faceplanted at 25-30mph and didn’t even have the air knocked out of me. My Klim Airbag deployed. There seem to be a decent amount of Canadians on this forum, so I figured this might be a good place to ask about the Tek Vests. Anyone have experience with them?

Disclaimer... Klim is a SE Idaho company and I firmly believe in buying local whenever possible. I do wear Dakar off road. I hadn’t planned on buying any of the ADV gear. What sold me on Klim was their boots and helmet. I bought a Krios and the GTX boots for 3 weeks in Peru. Plan was bomb around the Andes on dirt roads and go as far as we could go in the Amazon basin. The Krios was the first helmet I have ever owned that I could wear all day and not have to take off at rest stops or gas stops. That’s how light and comfy it is. We got on and off the plane wearing our riding gear and carrying a carry on back pack and a helmet. The sho…

Hi there I have a Dane kit, which I don't like at all. The uncomfortable, Gore-Tex membrane is below the protection jacket and so on. My helmet is not an adventure helmet and my boots were some cheap ones. I'll try to add and mark all the good advice I get and my final choices in this original post, that way it can be seen without scrolling through the whole thread. All the help and insights are greatly appreciated. I did a lot of research and decided to go with the layering system now. This is the list I put together so far: Head Helmet: Alpinestars SM-10 (that seems to do the job so far, even with rain…

Hmm? Are you a " comfortable " gentleman? Dare I say fat? To my chargrin that's where I am now. Old age, serious injury and recent surgery. I look like Homer Simpson. Like, seriously. I'm wearing a pair of O'Neal nylon trousers as my excellent Fly racing pants don't quite suit ADVing, and an RSV mesh jacket. It's summer here, y'see. Well friends, I'll be darned if I can keep the pants up, even cinching them up as tight as a fish's arse. Constantly pulling them up and then my jacket rides up and my lower back is exposed. Other day at the local mall I went into the shop that caters for enormous humans figuring there …

How many of you get sticker shock when it's time to shop for a new pair of riding gloves? I was poking around on the Harbor Freight of all things motorcycle aka Cycle Gear website and was totally shocked at the price of gloves! The less than a hundred dollar selection was pretty small. Most were between $100 and $200. I even saw a heated pair for $330. RU kidding me! There is no way I would shell out that kind of cash for gloves, so I headed out to the budget motorcycle glove store aka Lowes. Before you laugh you might want to check them out. I was surprised at the selection. After trying on about 8 or 9 pairs I…

I picked up my T7 1100 miles from home and it was equipped with a Yamaha Rally Seat and split seat ( carried in my side bags). My rear end started hurting at 10 minutes and I still had 3 days to go. Anyone else have this issue? The stock rally seat is a butt killer. Well I found an inexpensive fix. You might not have to go with an aftermarket seat if a pair of Moto-Skiveez works for you the way it did for me. Here is my review - I tested them on the Rally seat, the same one that literally bruised my butt for 1100 miles. Moto-Skiveez work! I have a lot of riding gear, jackets, pants, boots and helmets and we are moving to a new home with a large enough garage to create a gear storage area. I am looking for ideas for innovative storage. Yes I could build a 6 foot shelf and put the helmet on top and a clothing hanging rack below, but that won't look "cool". Any photos would be appreciated.

Never thought I would own anything by RevIt or Klim, so spendy... However.... got the Mangrove gloves, lucked out and they fit perfect. When I put them on, do the finger crease snug (make sure they are seated): - if I try to flatten my hand as if to do a 'high five' they resist and the palm tightens - if I try to 'make a fist' they resist and the back side tightens - when I relax my hand, there is a natural curl of my palm and fingers, as if I were holding onto a handlebar - when I ride with them, they basically disappear (if that makes sense) and I like that Anyway, they may not be for everyone but thought I would …

Seeing a number of new riders signing on here, I wanted to relate my experiences in gear choices. General statement, more gear = more protection. Not an absolute, but you get the idea. Regardless of street vs dirt, wearing protective gear is always a good idea for the unexpected. In my 60 years of riding ( about 50/50 dirt/ street) I've almost always worn protective gear. Helmets were/ are the one thing I never ride without, but there have been times when I wished I had been wearing more gear. At 21 yo, I hit a black dog at night out in the dark countryside at 55 mph on a light Honda XL250. I went over the bars wearing a Shoei Full face helmet, no gloves,…

So...I'm currently wearing Forma Terra Evo boots about 2 years old, love em they broke in quite quickly and have coped a hiding and still are in pretty good condition, no need to replace, the only gripe I have with them is they seem to fill up with water on quite small creek crossings and cause ways, anything bigger and you may as well be wearing Sandals! So I'm after recommendations for Adventure style boots that are more resistant to water ingress and help stop riding all day with two marshmallows on the footpegs.

I'm currently wearing Klim Dakar pants and like them. However I seem to always be in-between sizes with pants. The Klim jackets fit perfectly but the pants don't. The M is just too tight and the L is too baggy. It looks like I need to start to look at different brands and I am looking for recommendations on what brands to try. I don't need waterproof. I like the materials the Klim is made from and how breathable they are for reference. Knee armor pockets are a must. Thanks!

Hello, Until now, I have only ridden with a visor and sunglasses or prescription glasses. I’d like to give goggles a try. My helmet is a Scorpion EXO AT950. Rather than ending up with a bucket of goggles that aren’t worth a damn, is there a make/model that most people like? Thank you. ZK

I posted the below in another topic associated with the vests, but I believe this is of enough importance to justify a separate topic and make sure you all see it. Lifetime warranty issue: Heads up on the Klim vest. I purchased one this summer, I wear one layer under it and it fits well. It does get a bit hot, but not horrible. I purchased it after a report of a highway rider accident and the State Patrol stated the rider's air bag vest was a great benefit to the rider after hitting a deer. After riding a few times in rougher 2 track the zipper became separated in the middle of the zipper, remaining a attached at the top and bottom. I noticed this …

I've been shopping around for boots as I was wanting something waterproof. Disclosure: my current boots are Gaerne SG11's and I'm a hard enduro offroad rider. After trying on the Forma Adventure and Terra Evo I am settling on the Gaerne G Dakar. The main reasoning is the protection. I felt the Forma's were both very flimsy, specially the Adventure without the hinge, though the Terra hinge really didn't provide much. I also feel the Dakar has a stiffer sole for more standing riding. Fit was very similar on all three boots, I'd use a size 13 US / 48 EUR in all of them. The Gaerne may be a bit bigger as the 47's fit ok but I'm going larger to as they squish my s…

Trying to keep things simple with my gear, yet stay comfortable on my way to work and on my way home. My commute: - my route to and from, I am going 35 to 40 mph - when I leave the house, the temp can be close to 45 F. - when I leave work, temp can be close to 85 / 90 F. That is a pretty big spread. Ultimately, I would wear my Tourmaster jacket, liner installed, vents closed, and my full face helmet with face shield. Then, on the way home, my mesh jacket, open MX helmet with my Arclite safey glasses for good airflow. Two outfits - presume this is how to do it.... stow gear in panniers 😐
