Acerbis tank and steering damper

Gday.

After acerbis 23l tank installation, I can't use Scott's steering damper, there is not enough room in front of the tank. I have a mounting bracket done by 3D moto, polish maker. Question is:

Is there any other compatible steering damper (and mounting bracket) with 23l acerbis tank? Maybe oryginal Scott's bracket? RalleMoto?

Thanks.

R.

Have you checked out Camel Adv Products?

Keep your 700 Tenere tracking straight through the sand and rocks with an MSC Moto's steering damper! By slightly slowing the steering action, this fist-sized unit keeps your front wheel from deflecting when it...

Thanks Landshark.

But I'm looking for an info from someone who has both acerbis 23l tank and steering damper installed. 🙃

The tank just touches the black part of the damper which I can live with. I had to remove the adjuster and file the back to clear the tank. It is a close fit but works.

Be warned the adjuster has 2 small grub screws, one on top of the other and a very small spring and ball bearing on the underside that works as a "clicker".

I will have my tank back together over the weekend so will post a couple more pics.

The Scotts website actually suggests using a heat gun to reshape the tank - has anybody actually done this?

Bugger that. I had major problems with the first tank leaking! I will put up with the adjuster just touching the tank.

Alcohol! No good story starts with a salad.

Did you get your tank back together @Richarddd and how does it look?

I might be just doing the same thing as I also have a Acerbis and would like a damper.

Thanks

Henchman. Address your question to rider 101. I had just forwarded  his post to this thread. I haven’t tried to install a damper yet

Hey guys. Need to revive this conversation. Has anyone find any solution for the scotts damper with acerbis tank?

Supposedly you can reform the front of the tank with a heat gun to get the needed clearance.

I have been chicken to attempt it with my tank.

Care to share any details of the process for doing this?

Here is a step by step pdf that the guys from scotts performance sent me.

Repeat de process. It took me like 30 mins. 1. heat it 2. press the damper with force in the area. 3. place a wet cloth in the area so it cools down and the pastic take the form.

EMPTY THE TANK before doing this. Just in case 😅

A while back someone had a thread on heating/bending their tank.

I can't remember if it was on this forum or maybe adventure rider so sorry I can't give instructions, but I saved a few pics and they are self explanatory.

Looks like a fairly easy fix if you take your time and are patient.

Have the tanks you guys are using the heat guns on had gas in them or are they virgin tanks?

Thanks

Done.. Installing damper with acerbis tank. No room ('good' job acerbis designers...) + 1hr of heating = 4mm separation between tank and damper. Mission completed. 😉

I sent a message to Acerbis US with some constructive feedback. Basically I acknowledged that they can't accommodate every aftermarket accessory out there, but I did point out that dampers are pretty common, especially among the people who would choose to buy a larger capacity tank. They seemed receptive and said they'd pass on the suggestion to Italy. Maybe if enough people do they'll wind up tweaking it!

None that I can think of, but you still need to reform the Acerbis tank for the Scott damper to clear it.

I initially got one of their mounts for my last bike. For some reason, instead of a collar around the pin to support it on the mount, they machined a groove into the pin and used a circlip to hold it up. The pin snapped at that groove on my second or third day of riding. They sent me a new pin, but I had no faith the same thing wouldn't happen again, so I wound up switching to the BRP mount, and after about 50k+ miles with BRP mounts, I haven't had any issues at all.

It looks like their T7 mount has a collar like BRP's, so it's somewhat apples and oranges, but I realized why Scotts plasters warnings everywhere about using only their products. The extra $100 for the T7 BRP mount was worth the peace of mind, and frankly it just looks way more robust.
