Highway Dirt Bikes Handguards

Highway dirt bikes handguards.  I've never had a pair of these, but they were recommended and look rock solid.    The install went pretty easy and they fit well.    He said to order these, and specify T700:https://www.highwaydirtbikes.com/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=HG-550

They have an L bracket for the inside mount.  The clutch cable fits underneath.

The brake line is snug under the other side.    I thought I could loosen the banjo bolt and rotate the brake line, but there's a tab on it preventing that.

The bar end bolts thread right into the stock weights.   The bolts they sent me were a little too long so I added 2 washers.  I think they'll provide shorter bolts for future orders.

Are you planning to remove stock mirrors and use the HDB integration ones?  I'm curious of your review on those.

Please take some pics of it finished and outdoors from a few angles. Thanks!

Can someone with these post some pics of the full bike, from further away? Also, how are the mirrors if I want to ditch the stock and only run the integrated ones? Good enough viz?

Not my bike but here’s a pic from ADVRider. I don’t like the HDB mirrors personally. I’d rather run double takes.

Copy the text of the link, I think there's some spaces in there making the link bad.

ah...I see that empty space in the front now. Thank you,

I guess these are their "T7 mod" which uses the same kit as KTM790? Or I am dreaming here? lol

Left switch is for my heated grips.

In the middle is an optimate plug commonly called SAE or battery tender. I charge the bikes battery through this and also run my air pump.

Right switch controls the brightness of my aux lights in daytime running light mode so I can select 10/20/50% brightness. Then they go to 100% when I hit the high beam switch.

I took the spaces out of the link, but it still doesn't work.  Notice that if you mouse over the link, the forum puts something else in there.

I think its very similar to the 790 kit, & the same price, but he said to make sure that you specify T700.    I've noticed on the other forum that some folks removed the bar end weights, but I'm not sure why, and then you'd need different hardware.

@papab Could you please confirm this is the top bar clamp that fits the T700?  They have good products,  but their website is a bit clunky to navigate.  100x38/40mm Bolt Pattern. Also, if you could provide the top threaded hole(s) diameter and pitch, that would help me out a bunch. Working on a GPS setup utilizing that clamp ( hopefully).

Well, I have an excellent update...it's as fresh as it gets.

I spoke with HDB and we're working through a fitment to where you remove the bar-end weights and use those threads for the"Big Bolt" set-up.  Shorter (dirt bike) handguards, bolted directly to the ends of the bars, like all the other HDB handguard set-ups.  This should be exactly what I am looking for.  As soon as things are finalized and I get things installed, I'll share some pictures and report back on how things feel.

I think he has it sorted now.  Just specify that you want to fit the guards without the bar end weights.

Chad at HDB had sent me some threaded inserts to test that would allow direct mounting of the guards to the bar ends without the weights.  The ends of the bars are threaded with an uncommon M16 x 1.5 pitch.  The best he and I could find were M16 x 2.0 pitch flat head allens.  So after some talking, texting and measuring he machined up inserts that thread directly into the ends of the bars.  Then an M8 flathead allen can be threaded into the inserts.  Another problem we had was the throttle tube extends past the bar by about 1.5mm, and the stock grips extend past the bar ends even further.  So the inserts Chad made up have a big enough shoulder to clear all that, and allow the throttle tube free movement.

I was able to mount two sets of HDB hand guards to my T7, his NexGen kit and the Ultimate kit.  The NexGen kit was an older model I robbed off my DR650/790 to temporarily fit to the T7 for a Zion, UT trip this past weekend.  The Ultimate kit was waiting for me when I got back and I just finished fitting it.  Both kits take very minor finessing.  The NexGen clamps just barely fit in the flat areas next to the bar clamps, but they do fit just fine.  If your bars aren't centered in the clamps then this will be more noticeable.  Again, my kit is older so I can't speak to new NexGen kits but all things being equal, they should work.  The Ultimate kit requires the brake line banjo fitting to the master cylinder be rotated down a little.  This means I had to ground off the locating pin on the banjo fitting at the master cyl.  Someone mentioned that pin above in this thread.  That pin is mostly to speed up fitting during production and can be safely (and carefully) done away with.  I was able to rotate the banjo fitting by loosening the bolt just enough to rotate the fitting, then retightening it.  I lost no fluid.  And both kits may need the clutch perch moved in a few MM for clearance at the end of the lever if stock levers are retained.  There was clearance in stock form for me, but I still moved the perch in a bit for more clearance.  Both kits allow plenty of clearance from the windscreen, side screens and display at full lock in both directions.  The Ultimate kit allows even greater clearance as it isn't as bulky as the NexGen.  I'm sticking with the Ultimate kit on my T7 and the NexGen kit will go back on the DR.

Some pro tips, if you will.  Use medium threadlocker on the threaded insert into the bars.  Either use no thread locker on the M8 flat head allens into the threaded inserts or use very little and don't apply it at the last 5mm of threads on the bolt.  This can gum up the end of the bolt and make it hard to remove later if that end extends past the threaded insert inside the bar.  The threaded insert is only aluminum so don't go gorilla tight on it.

I have no affiliation with HDB.  I just really like Chad's products and he was easy to work with in trying to get this sorted.  I've beat my NexGen guards up a lot on my DR650/790 and they hold up really well.

In my pictures, the blue set is the NexGen kit, the black set is the new Ultimate kit.

Hope this helps.

Nicely done.  Mine should be here today.  I think I'm going to get the handguards anodized.
