Lets talk fuel range on a tank cause 139 miles is no good

Hey, Dakota. What octane are you using and is it non-alcohol? Thanks.

I’m just jealous of the costs. I reckon with your 3.7 litres/gal and the pound conversion, your paying about 83pence a litre.
hmmm. Those were the days.
well get different readings anyway when the oil boys start making the synthetic fuel. Made from air and water using green electric. Greens can’t complain about v8s then. 👍Rolling it out now. Sport first. Then garages. 👍. No conversion. Straight in the tank. 🤘. Don’t know how much they’ll want for it though.

This might be a good place for the acerbis 22L tank link and pics. ……..not by me though, I’m a computer biff.
I reckon at the 60-65mpg I’m getting on fast roads (70-90 ish)that’s a 300-320mile range. More than my 1vj. And it’s out before Xmas. Now where’s my wish list for Santa?
🤔🤘

Not sure if anyone finds this helpful or not, but here is every drop of gas I've put into my Tenere.

On another note, if anyone here reading this has some thoughts on my sudden vibration, i'd love to hear what you have to say.

Is that 202 miles an anomaly? The two fill ups around it have the same amount of gas by .10 but 60 or so miles less.

TBH I'm not sure. I don't think it is.. IIRC it was like one long freeway day with no luggage/passenger.

That’s not an incorrect reading. That’s about 69 mpg (uk not US) which is easily reachable on a cruise. 👍

can’t believe how much this engine gets better and better as it loosens up.

I have a Camel ADV auxiliary tank.  So 4.2 US gal main and 1.3 gal aux (16l + 5l) = 5.5 gal (21l).

Yesterday did a ride 50% good gravel roads and 50% choppy sealed country roads.

Last bar started flashing at 250 miles and I rode it to 275 miles and refueled.

Aux tank took 1.383 gal and main tank 3.313.  So there was 0.9 gal left in the main tank.

I think I could go safely 50 miles when the last bar starts flashing and maybe run dry approx 75 miles (with a little margin).  Note this would be on good gravel roads averaging 35-50 mph.

US Gallon = 3.785l

Is gal? I reckon that’s about 71mpg uk. Good stuff.
My acerbis is now being delivered next week. Can’t wait.

Where did you buy your tank from?

Most places still haven't received any inventory yet.

Thanks!

Rugged roads. They’re not in yet. They’re due in this week. I take it there are quite a few of us waiting for them to be shipped out straight. Ordered it in august. They’ve been good as gold and kept phoning and asking if a refund was wanted or if i wanted to wait, every time acerbis put the shipment date back.  About £370 if I remember correctly.

Lol…. How much they’ll want loads. Hydrogen ‘boom as in bang explosion’ economy.

Only problem is I’d like to have the both tanks ready without swapping all the bits, so may have to order some yam parts and a fuel pump. I’ll probably still use the original normally with 200 miles per tank, and when playing. The acerbis will be for my trips/ zombie apocalypse etc. Or I may swap it this week 🤔

Why bother with swapping - for looks ?

The acerbis is lighter than the stock if you resist to fill it to the brim. It is also much faster to fill because it does not have the safety features at the fill cap, so you can easily fill it to the brim when you need the range.

“Spose it’s half vanity and half security. Although I have seen the locking cap by acerbis now. Vanity, I chose the white bike ‘cos I love the look and goes well with the 1vj. It would be on already if I could make it white with red speedblock. Still thinking of lining the tank inside, then applying decals.

My first yamaha was a blue 3DS (almost indentical to the 3AJ, but just with a single headlight - but i changed that). So to me the blue is the right color 🙂

I don’t like internal coatings in tanks, cause sometimes it produces little particles that can clog the fuel pump and injectors.

I’d just put white perforated decals. In my research, it seems they would last for years, and then you can just replace them. If it’s just white perforated vinyl, it should be really cheap and you can cut it by yourself

Thanks man. Sounds good to me. 👍I’ll give it a go.
if anyone has a link to a good one that you’re happy with, please feel free to throw one my way.

Just had a reply from acerbis. As expected “tank can’t be painted or wrapped”.
next option, baglux. What do you think? They do the white but with the black side tank colour(unless you pay another £50 for personalising- wonder if they do speedblock?)🤔

What strange material is it that it can't be painted or wrapped?

Paints or glue of wraps affects degrade the tank material.

Others have said the fuel seeps vapour through the plastic and it gets under anything applied on the outside. I contacted  Christian at Crispy,

Crispy Designs | Specialist in custom KTM 690 & Adventure decals & graphics

And he’d be interested in a solution obviously too. Still looking for a plastic tank sealer. I think the baglux tank cover is my best option at the mo, even if it has to be stretched a little, and get Crispy decals for the rest of the plastics. Don’t want to spend a fortune on the tank, to have Yamaha release a metal one next year or something, which could be sprayed./covered. I think you guys’ pics of acerbis fitted have prompted me to fit it anyway.

I still thinks it strange. The XT660Z tank is also plastic and painted.
It was the same story with helmets, no stickers or painting because it can degrade the material but most helmets are painted now and have stickers on them and in France it's mandatory to add some reflective stickers as well.
But it's new and solutions will come eventually.
