High Exhaust, is it ok? anyone try one yet? Ever hear of Huzar exhausts?

Hello. I was inspired by this particular conversation. So, I went back and configured my exhaust properly. I used the Fisch Moto spark arrestor. I drilled a hole as described in a prior post and used a longer hex bolt and added three washers in between the spark arrestor, and the muffler, in order to center the spark arrestor. It might make sense to secure them in place with JB Weld.

It's nothing elegant...but it was "in stock" when I needed something. And now I realize that the tags need to be renewed!

Well. I hoped that my OEM lights would work with my Huzar exhaust. No such luck, as I experienced a meltdown today.

I do have a tail tidy and lights from Camel ADV, but I think I’m going to need to figure out a way to set the lights up away from the exhaust. If anyone has a good idea, I’m interested. Thank you. 4B7C82D1-F7BF-44E9-850C-97F8894EDA64.jpeg.66948c35bce5bdaed826923e0fee58a1.jpeg

OK…as I’m trying to figure out my melting turn signal situation, I read this entire thread. I had this important realization. I hadn’t inserted the db killer. I didn’t even know what it was. I thought it was for hanging the exhaust on some bikes.

So…now that I know it’s supposed to be in the muffler, I don’t know where. Is it in the “A” area or “B” area? I also read that it rattles around. Can is simply put a little JB Weld putty in place and call it a day?

Thank you.52822406-45A4-415D-BEAF-6576587AFD80.jpeg.35c6240588be89b10d403228b90f3448.jpeg

The part in question. Where to I place the killer with the four holes?

4 hole plate goes in location B.  I tried some exhaust rtv to hold it in place, but it still vibrated and annoyed me, so I ended up just tossing it in a box.  Location A has the "proper" baffle, which attaches via the screw hole, and there's no way to put the plate in that end anyways.

For turn signals, I used these: https://www.amazon.ca/Motorcycle-BSK-Blinker-Indicator-2000-2008/dp/B07CLJCHRR

Get the clear ones, not the smoke ones.  The smoked ones are a bit dim.  Mine came with resistors to maintain the flash rate, but I also grabbed a cheap digital LED flasher at the same time.

Name brand version:

Replace your bulky stock Yamaha front signals with low profile superbright LED Flushmounts from TST Industries.

They also have flasher relays and connectors to directly connect to the bike.  I just cut the connectors off the original signals because they're very unlikely to ever go back on the bike anyways though.

Wintersdark,

Thank you for all the great information.

I’m definitely going to have to fabricate something to keep the led blinkers out of harms way (exhaust). I like your idea of cutting the connectors from the original lights. I actually like them, but with one melted, my hand is forced to make the switch.

Thank you for the guidance on the db killer. I’ll get it in tomorrow. The bike is definitely louder without it and/or the Huzar. A bit “brappy”… especially when descending under compression.

With gratitude,

ZK

Weird I had no problems with oem nor oem leds. Even in high outside temperatures.

Wintersdark,

Today I picked up some flush turn signals as you have. I think they’ll be great. I did install the db killer. It definitely has the odd sound you described. I’ll need to figure out a way to lock it down…or I’ll send it to you so we don’t have to waste another perfectly good box. It definitely works in terms of calming down the sound, and eliminated the brapping sound. However the buzz/rattle is definitely annoying.

Not sure if this will help, but I have the Camel ADV high exhaust with the Wings muffler.  It looks like  I have more clearance than your set up, but I have the turn signal guard from Camel ADV and utilize TST Industries LED turn signals.  No problems with “meltage” 😳🤞

Just to throw another twist in here.......

I have the Polish Dominator high MX2 exhaust system installed and still need to figure some signals out.  The pipe exits very high and is tight to the tail section.  From the pics you can see my very temp location for the stock signals, I'm thinking of the flush LED flashers, but I like the visibility the stock lights give, not sure if the LED's are as bright and noticeable.  Not necessarily looking for answers here, just thought I'd post with pic of this system.  Another Polish offering, though a little pricier, but still very reasonably priced, and well made.

This same question about the Huzar internal dB killer was discussed a few days ago on another Huzar thread. I secured mine with a few dabs of hi-temp RTV and it hasn't rattled.

It's the Tail Tidy that brought the turn signal too close on mine.

current situation is this one with huzar, custom tail tidy and oem leds:
(leds are like 2mm above exhaust but no melting problems)

This is quite interesting. Certainly gives one something to do in during a rainy Northern California winter.

Thus is how the Camel ADV Tail Tidy and signals relate to the Huzar. I’m going to give it a try and see if 1.5” is far enough to avoid melting. I thought about adhering some of that wrap that people put on exhaust pipes to protect their boot heels. C57DFE7B-BE07-4396-B37E-3B92C5188E43.jpeg.f00a52e5354f6e66603ed44caab0b9a0.jpeg

Hello Again.

I hope this is the last post on this topic. I hope it will be helpful for anyone installing the Huzar exhaust with the Camel ADV Tail Tidy.

I tried the turn signals pictured above, which came from Camel ADV. Unfortunately, even though the signal wasn't in direct line with the exhaust, and was further away than the OEM turn signal, it still melted after a short ride.

So...I purchased a flushmount turn signal set and signal converter wiring adapter from TST Industries. I think my signals are out of harm's way now.

I also added Permatex RTV Silicone Gasket Maker to the round disk db killer on the Huzar. This was to stop the annoying buzzing/jingling. It worked perfectly! Pipe sounds great! No more "brapping". The second db killer at the exit of the exhaust has been replaced with a spark arrestor.

Life is now....great!1497666949_Tail1.jpg.cf04d6c98a5599ea49dede3762c9d1e3.jpg1756247059_Tail2.jpg.4e85bdc20b61d973977b0de31e08fb19.jpg1739191178_Image1-10-23at9_41AM.jpeg.9a2a5223feece5ddcf6eaea610808085.jpeg1578791151_Image1-10-23at9_45AM.jpeg.c19f453188195568a56238f70ac41244.jpeg

Hello Zebco Kid, I'm curious how those LED's work for you.  Flash rate normal?  Brightness on par with OEM blinkers?  Do you have LED's on the front as well?

Thanks, I'm still figuring what I will put on my bike.

You have to either replace the flasher (TST sells a drop in replacement cheap) or use load resistors to keep the flash rate correct.  That's simply inevitable if you're replacing the stock incandescent bulbs with LED's, as the stock flasher relay relies on the resistance of the bulbs to work.    I've got them on the front as well, and they work well.  However, I had to modify the plastic mounting nuts they come with to fit on the front.  There's a flange around the nut, I had to cut that flange off entirely.  They're just plastic, it's easy to do and pretty much impossible to screw up.  End result:

I used a set of those turn signals for a while but had comments from a couple buddies following me that they could barely see them, especially when it was sunny.

Rosok, The brightness is adequate. I don’t think they’re quite as recognizable as the amber housing, but they’re good enough.

They do blink fast, but I’ve purchased the relay from Camel ADV to return the  blink rate to what we expect…meaning less annoying!

To be honest with you, this blinker thing was a bit of a domino effect problem for me. I purchased the Huzar exhaust, which move the exhaust flow into the path of the turn signal. I don’t think that would have been a problem with the original tail light setup. However, the Tail Tidy brought the signals too close to the exhaust, which then began the domino effect of melting, etc.

I actually like the OEM turn signals. I think they look fine on the bike. If I were to do it over again, I’d still go with the Huzar, as it is there for good damage prevention reasons. The Tail Tidy was purely aesthetic, and led to a lot of unnecessary hassle and some expense.

As far as the signals not being recognizable enough when activated…I don’t depend on anyone seeing me ever, whether it’s a car or a bike.
