Packing up this morning afternoon after very heavy rain all night and day.
Tried to wait it out planning some alternative but decided to pack up in a short moment with only light rain and head home.

Fair play for trying with that tent @Ray Ride4life
You might've been better off sitting under the trees wi' yer gear on.

Nothing wrong with the tent and everything was still dry, no matter what tent you have it's a bitch to pack up in that rain.
Reason why i went home is because the TET Belgium was not TET worthy (killed by rules) and it's no fun to ride in this weather so double fun breaker with no reason to go on like a big trip going to new places makes it better to just go home and do something useful.
This trip was just a check for my trip next month and i got out of it what i wanted so still a successful trip.

Edit: I mostly use it just to sleep and move on the next day. If i want to stay longer i use the tarp to make the campsite a bit more comfortable or find a cabin or B&B.

Too busy focusing on my advanced test skills and completely missed the tarmac disappearing. Not that observant maybe.

Had to do some internship visits, so I took the lesser travelled roads (this is the only gravel section, though):

Had to take the Rhine ferry on my way back home. It's a little bit too deep for river crossing on two wheels.

Looks good. Which frame / tank protection is that?

Thanks Dougie, it's a Hepco Becker Rallye:

Schützt den oberen Bereich des Motorrads. Solide Konstruktion inkl. hochwertiger Oberflächenbeschichtung

I like its look, and it is being mounted to the "right" points (not the engine casing). Looks is similar to AS, but it's heavier and incorporates more mounting points. Small pockets could be easily attached to it (up till now, there was no need for me to do that).

To be honest, I still think the Heavy Duty Enduro crash bars are the best, in terms of everything - if they work with your preferred skid.

Recently opened mountainroad, 40km of gravel amongst patches of snow in the middle of Norway.

Pics above is red line on map, Riasten lake. Blue line is also a good road, Samsjøen Lake. Both go above the treeline.

Just a short ride to redeem myself.  However, the redemption center was closed on this day.

Then I found this fishing spot that I have since returned to and caught two fish.

Got an early start this morning and fired the T7 across country to Co.Sligo.

Very, very chilly but thankfully completely dry riding.

Ticked off a Photo Rally point.

A two hour each way ride crossing through counties Monaghan, Cavan, Roscommon and Sligo.

The Photo Rally points often follow a loose sort of thread or theme.

You get to get to ride to some nice spots along nice roads and learn a bit along the way.

A most enjoyable mornings riding albeit a tad cool.

Tinged with a little sadness for a downtrodden generation.

And, by the condition of the memorial, shamefully forgotten.

Thanks for that bit of Ireland History.

Just last week I was fishing off the dock and along came a fellow who was born in Ireland and grew up in Belfast.  I thought of you when I spoke to him.

Thanks @Toppie

Holidays! Took off early for a pleasant ride on my favourite twisties. Weather was perfect, bike was perfect, traffic was almost nonexistent = perfect.

Took the time to practise trail braking, and it has already paid off! One truck was very close to the middle line on a tight right-hand turn, I was able to slow her down a bit while pushing more into the corner. Without preloaded front brake, it would have been "brown zone" already (for those familiar with DDFM's zones).

Checked the forecast for the weekend and it's not good.

Friday morning was grand though so, I decided for a pre-breakfast tide out.

Thought I might head across to Dundalk town and mix it with the Hyundai's to sharpen my rush-hour traffic skills.

Then I thought.....'Fekkit!

Headed for the hills in the opposite direction.

I had to skirt Monaghan town but at 06:30 the traffic wasn't so heavy at all and a few minutes later I was once more traversing Bragan's bog-land.

1.thumb.JPG.58549f9e52d17efff3907e65d06a5774.JPG

I took the opportunity to venture of the narrow tar roads and along some of the turf cutters gravel roads.

3.thumb.JPG.7a6f76d29349b3d310c52eb940782bc4.JPG

The skies were darkening by now even though Metrological Man told me it wouldn't rain.

I managed a few kilometres though, before the skies opened.

7.thumb.JPG.2a127722429c7cd1e62b0b1945b5cf23.JPG

I enjoyed some nice riding on those lesser lane-ways.6.thumb.JPG.bf00d653521ab11fded27cb4f94d930d.JPG

I was early enough to arrive before the turf cutting lads.

4.thumb.JPG.20b2263357787a03bbd1c95c3d7bea9d.JPG

Doesn't look like ever-so-easy work...5.thumb.JPG.9e2f67409d936c1169369d4b6b9262ac.JPG

I'd hoped for a bit of a loop on the gravel but it was a dead end road...

8.thumb.JPG.8d479548a3f269426cbe6cfd1b6e4f04.JPG

A drizzle started that threatened to get heavier so I set off homewards.

Passing by a disused service station on the way home, I guessed my grandchildren might see many more of these than I ever will.

9.thumb.JPG.111ab88f31120e7e8da57b4d4d568b41.JPG

Apart from the last half hour of a downpour, it was a pleasant start to the weekend.

@Toppie Thanks! That was interesting!

As I am from the USA, I am unfamiliar with "Turf". Would that be the same as "Peat", and you cut and dry it and burn it for heat in your homes? I expected a deeper mining operation, like coal.

Yes. Peat.

Turf colloquially.

That picture in my post is a small operation.

In places scattered across the country you'll find peat bogs that are utilised for their 'product'.

Some small land owners still cut their own. It's quite an art.

There's some operations that are of an industrial scale though and it's been targeted by the EU.
While I've a certain sympathy for the traditional lads, I feel there might be a case for curtailing the big boys.
Now, that really does leave a scar on this wee bit of the planet.

_68959730_irmachinebig.jpg

Remote Irish boglands are now a battlefield where local turf-cutters are defying EU environmental restrictions, Diarmaid Fleming reports.
