Early Sunday ride to Pass Creek Pass.   Some smoke haze in the distance (Northern Idaho)

I enjoyed a really pleasant days riding yesterday.

Set off northwards towards Belfast.

On route, my first stop was at Dromora.

The Photo Rally agenda includes a visit to a 'Tribute Garden' that celebrates the 'Dromora Destroyers'

I hadn't a clue what the Destroyers were or, what they did, so, it was a nice surprise to discover it has a strong motorcycling theme.

There's four local legends honoured there.

1.thumb.jpg.5ad29243f321f80439657688efb98ee7.jpg

The garden pays homage to legendary Irish road racing quartet Brian Reid, Ray McCullough, Trevor Steele and Ian McGregor.

The Dromara Destroyers had a famed rivalry with the Armoy Armada, which included Joey Dunlop, Mervyn Robinson, Frank Kennedy and Jim Dunlop.

It's a nicely laid out tribute and I believe those riders featured there are all still living.

I'd expected quite heavy traffic approaching Belfast city outskirts but even at around 09:30 I had a clear run so was soon approaching Carrickfergus.

I stopped briefly at the castle there and said hello to auld King Billy.

Billy boy had a penchant for a scrap and he indulged in one at the Battle of the Boyne. It's arguably the most famous event in Irish history, due to its symbolic Catholic/Protestant confrontation.

He won by the way and the rest, the very, very complicated rest, is history.

It was a fairly short hop to my next Rally Point 'Dalways Bawn'
This is a well-preserved example of an early 17th century planter’s fortified enclosure, built in about 1609 by John Dalway, constable of Carrickfergus Castle, to secure his royal grant of land in the area.

In the 16th and 17th centuries there was confiscation of Irish owned land by the English Crown which were colonised by settlers from Britain.

Just another small snippet of Irelands complex history with Great Britain.

The only view unfortunately, is from the road.

It's quite an impressive old structure.

By this time my day had slowly changed from a chilly early morning start to a very pleasant summer morning and remained that way for the rest of my ride.

I veered towards the Coast Road and headed 'twards Glenarm.

It's a quite lovely stretch of coastline and the beautiful weather had the sea shimmering blue.

There's rock formation there that I've always meant to stop for a look when I've been passing but always forgot.

Today I made it a definite destination.

This is 'Madmans Window' A few miles south of the village of Glenarm, you’ll come across two large limestone boulders. On the far side of these boulders is the “Madman’s Window,” a naturally created, window-shaped gap in the rock looking out towards the Irish Sea.
The geological oddity gets its nickname from a local tale about a man from the village who lost his sweetheart in the waters of Glenarm Bay. It's said that after this terrible accident, the heartbroken man, tormented by his loss and losing grip on his sanity, visited the rocky hole on a daily basis for the remainder of his life,  to stare blankly through the gap and out to sea, apparently waiting for his sweetheart to return to him.
She never did.

I headed on through Glenarm then aimed for Magherafelt to take a different, prettier ride home.

I stopped at a filling station along the way to top up.

I had a simple lunch. Sausage roll and a bottle of Lucozade.  (I remembered when Lucozade used to be a sort of posh pop and I was only given it for medicinal purposes after I'd be a bit off-colour as a kid.  It made me smile.)

A feller pulled up alongside me and we got into a brief conversation about my bike.

He asked if it was very economical and I told him yes....maybe about 65 + mpg.

Then I scrolled through the dash to show him.

Nice surprise......

I'd set out at just after 07:00 and was home at just after 15:00.

A very enjoyable day riding through a nice countryside.

Good for you. Tell us about your spring upgrade details. I did the 16t. How many teeth does the oem rear have? Also, is the rear box perm mounted or quick release?

The fork was .60kg and I went to a .78kg, rear spring was 7.28 went to a 9.0 kg. My weight is 225. If you need help figuring out what you need, go to Racetech.com. they have an ez calculator. The stk rear is 46, my change gave me approximately 5 tooth difference from stk. The rear box is a permanent mount, tho I would welcome a quick release. Next up grade, will be stainless steel brake lines. I'm trying the shinko 804/805 tires right now. Good dirt traction good street. They are a bias ply tire, so have a much different feel than a radial. Like Pwr steering and manual steering.

I met up with my father for a tour around the Bancroft area, central Ontario, Canada. Finally got a chance to ride his KLR. Nothing new to report that we don't already know - but mainly how much more effort it took to maintain a quick pace. The Tenere is a breeze on these easy fire roads, and is way easier to drive at a far quicker pace. The acceleration certainly helps.

North Cape was a bit of a anti climax. Non visibility and to get a coffee and something to eat you have to buy a ticket to the main building where you also have access to the museum... Price €31!

Took a cabin because i haf enough of the rain after 4 days.

Hooefully Finland has a better climate.

I honestly dont understand many bikers fasination with Nordkapp?

Hardly anyone from Norway goes up there because its Shet.

The climate on the west coast is horrible and nordland its even worse. I hope you have a nice ride through Finland and you get to dry out somewhat!.
