Not a ride but a rare sighting of a clean and naked (no R40 and skidplate) Sporherre (name of my T7).

Just crossed the Manitoba border, glad to be back in Ontario.  Those prairies are windy and boring especially when I'm watching the rpms while breaking it in still

450 km roundtrip to a visit great MC museum.

Beuatiful July daytrip with my son on his Honda AT.

Mixed gravel and paved curvy back roads.

Just beaten by a Harle rider to the parking "lot"

park.jpg.290e48961d72ec84741d4a3fb0ea488e.jpg

Focus this year is on Triumph and Husqvarna but a few four wheelers also make for a good mix.

mus.jpg.86bd1b875b4b1504c5e517764ad2d980.jpg

The museum is located in a side building on the property of Tidö Castle (privately owned)

We decided to "improve" the driveway a bit.

slott.jpg.ea4f0e72c6ead1ea327ee7830ff05815.jpg

Brisk riding chasing my son (albeit never above 120 km/h) resulted in a fuel consumption

of only 3.4 l/100 km (69 mpg US/83 mpg UK)! Truly amazing. Coming from a T12, I can only

applaud Yamaha for creating a fantastic engine in this entertaining bike.

No, I’ve been running around here and the “lanes” etc in France seem to be more laid back ( the rules about the  using of them) than back in uk. I definitely want to get my bike down here in the future though, as I love France, medieval towns and rivers, mountains, and they love bikes (especially teneres). Hardest choice would be to bring the 600 or 700. When I do get the time and money to ride down, I’ll definitely give a heads up to see if I can join some of you guys.

for everyone else in the world… this is the playground @RoyFrance has been hiding from us 😁👍

Domestic conditions have curtailed my longer ride outs a bit lately.

Yesterday however, I got an opportunity for a full days riding and decided to treat myself to a day westwards.

Also, it'd give me a chance to tick of another couple of venues on the Irish Photo Rally.

I used the 'LocaToWeb' app to record my days ride.

Capture.thumb.JPG.10d01ba2038fcedca433f55294e749f2.JPG

Weather man promised 'Overcast but dry'.

He wasn't quite right and a half hour into my day found me contemplating donning the waterproofs.

It sort of semi cleared though and just I tolerated the intermittent fine drizzle periods.

It was very cool though and I even had the grips hotting up a couple of times.

I'd made a good early start to get myself over to a favourite part of the island.

A whole new mood besets me when I get the first glimpse of the mountains silhouetted against the sky.

My type of ride!

I was three hours into my journey and although it was still very cool, the drizzle had ceased.

The roads were all but empty and most are a joy to ride.

My first stop-off was at Achill Island in Co.Mayo.

It's a lovely area with some incredible scenery but the reason for this visit was to seek out a monument to Johnny Kilbane.

Johnny boy, it seems, was a very handy wee pugilist back in the day.
I'd assumed him to be Irish but he was in fact, born in the USA.

One of Irelands main exports is people and some of 'em have fared pretty well in lands far away.

Ireland sort of claims the off-spring of those imports as her very own, no matter how tenuous the connection.

(Barack Obama is a good example and I think even Muhamad Ali had a dob of Irish DNA coursing his veins as well.)

Anyway, young Mr. Kilbane is now Achill's Own.

4.thumb.jpg.ab98cce8b9f23deaf45190e5510d6ccf.jpg

Kilbane was born to John and Mary (Gallagher) Kilbane in Cleveland, Ohio on April 9, 1889. His mother died when he was 3 years old and his father went blind when he was 6. He attended school until the sixth grade when he dropped out to help support his family.

From there, and after a bit of a stroll to stretch me body bits, I fired the Ténéré up and head for another Rally Point in Galway, some 115 kms distance.668826247_9(2).thumb.JPG.de8234cd5489387d7d74ab5b70610fd2.JPG

By this time, the skies had brightened a bit and I even felt a little warmer.

The road southwards is a motorcycling pleasure...

1931153743_5(2)-Copy.thumb.JPG.7287ca7c5046e3d1adc1301ff77cfc0a.JPG

...I stopped once or twice to stretch and take a couple of pics...

6.thumb.JPG.b889571a030ca8e789a22e356a13b1f8.JPG

...I never tire of the west coast.

290685907_7(2).thumb.JPG.22ef45d83f619f0fa584e003046a4925.JPG

Towards midday the weather brightened a bit..

8.thumb.jpg.5a96ba93d361b472029f38bd6ae335bc.jpg

I arrived at my second 'port-of-call' before lunch time and, once more it had a pugilistic theme.

10A.thumb.JPG.11dc8f7935d03a8aacdc559cc85adb5b.JPG

A bit of research told me though, that Mike Flaherty was more renowned for his Hurling skills and, was a well respected member of his community in Galway as well as the rest of the country, for his contribution to Irish sports.

I got the required selfie and headed homewards.

10.thumb.jpg.9ba41dc57474ac5068fbc357e0cfe9ed.jpg

I stopped for fuel at around 13:00 and also had an on-the-run bit o' lunch by the roadside.

Chewing on my butty and glancing 'round the bike checking the chain etc.....I spotted...

11.thumb.JPG.d040bcde1c211b8fc237f3a614595edc.JPG

O-oh...

Couldn't tell what it was but, the pressure seemed OK.

Whatever it was, it was well embedded.  It didn't want to move.

I was in two minds what to do.

I decided to dig it out. I was dreading the screw or nail coming out with the resulting 'ppssssssss' sound.

I was so relieved when I eventually extracted a shard of hard stone.

It hadn't gone through the tread.

12.thumb.JPG.bac5737641baf17f8329f410cce50ecc.JPG

By 3 pm the sun had broken through the grey cloud and I enjoyed a cracking ride homewards for the last hour and a half.

A brilliant day.

I clocked 658 kilometres.  The LocatoWeb app shows a wee bit less.

What a good do!

Riding faster than everyone else only guarantees you'll ride alone.....

What a beautiful country you are living in!

Thanks again for your report and pictures. Those photo rallys are a great thing.

Just thinking about visiting Ireland next year. By bike, of course!

I saw this hill climb opportunity today while out roaming through a central PA state forest on a 200 mile loop and had to take advantage of it.

20220707_111013.jpg.474b0e807aff7094adea47d17b0e483f.jpg

See the T7 up there on top? A couple more pics below for perspective, although the last one looking down loses all depth perception.

20220707_112041.jpg.61255eb1dd5e47bed1e80253b6acce83.jpg20220707_111309.jpg.596fccdae63ad089bd1d4a6da30bf0e3.jpg

The T7 is just a tractor, and strolled right up to the top where I took a water break. The surface was loose rock/shale soft from yesterday's torrential rain, and I really expected to be dealing with some wheel spin but the (well worn, with 3,200 miles on them now) AX41 tires continue to impress including while crossing at an angle during the descent.

At another stop:

TET France, Section 13, Last Saturday

20220702_093318.jpg

20220702_093240.jpg

20220702_093407.jpg

For those interested in history, here's a link to wikipedia:

The shown bunker is part of the Maginot Line, a defensive line of bunkers built by France after WW1. Section 13 of the TET France gives the opportunity to see some of these buildings. Lots of them still exist, whereas a lot of the German counterpart, the Westwall (or Siegfried Line), has been destroyed during WW2 or afterwards.
