"Treat" is a word for it... 🙂  I might say otherwise.  Looks a tad challenging.

This part was indeed challenging... Took us a while.... I really enjoyed it, my mates a bit less.....

Got mine dirty last weekend, it’s never going to look new again 😛

The ride was the NBMC “Lost Coast Dual Sport” in Northern California.

A little over 400 miles, plus another 400 to get there and back home. Conditions were great, trails were not overly challenging (I kept the bike upright).

Some pretty deep water crossings, some mud bogs and gravel off cambers where I found the T7 a handful with a mind of its own. I’m still not comfy with this heavy bike when it starts sliding. But even the pavement sections were a blast and at the end of the day Saturday, after 250 miles in an 11 hour day, I really felt that this bike was made for that kind of riding.

More pics, the reason for our casual pace was my friends son came along on his Yamaha TW200! That’s him on his 19th birthday, nice way to celebrate!

Put the off road wheels in (2.5 inch rear rim) and had a small solo run today. It's so much better with the narrower rear rim off road.

Had great fun until a nail stopped play. Hoorah for the Motion Pro levers/bead breakers, Motion Pro rim protectors ,Motopressor pump, spare tube, centre stand and the Rally Raid wheel spanner.

Well done.  Roadside repairs need not be difficult if you have the correct tools.

Thanks and absolutely. That kit is awesome. Motopressor pump and Motion Pro tyre irons/bead breakers under the Rally seat in the space behind the rubber straps and rear tube in a bag on top of the battery with the Rim protectors and Rally raid spanner also under there the seat.

Plus got a front tube inside the swinging arm from a super top tip on this forum behind the rubber bung. There's loads of room in there!

Cheers

Rich

I like that idea of the front tube inside the swingarm.  With your advice, I will look to reconfigure under my seat.  I don’t think their is an abundance of room under my Seat Concepts seat.

I had a meet-up with some mates from Club Kawasaki in the UK....
Just tar-top,

Sorry.:006:

I cant believe just how lucky I was with the weather but, with the exception of a few short showers on the way from Cairnryan to Carlisle and again on my return to Belfast it was grand for the entire weekend.

I set off at 04:45 on the Friday to allow me good time to check in before the boat sailed.

I had a two hour wait though cos incoming ferry from Belfast was running late.

1.thumb.jpg.c9dfb1400dac48719c002eab6713cc9a.jpg

Dawn was about to break in a pleasingly golden way and the time seemed to go quickly watching the sun come up with the vessels entering and leaving the port.

4.thumb.jpg.b4f27d67ed5e353a9a133b241bed3198.jpg

Eventually my lift arrived and began to offload the incoming traffic...

2.thumb.jpg.c0ccd13dc6eb7b60119aed20ee8422d6.jpg

When we disembarked in Cairnryan I'd intended to go off on a little tangent and head towards Galloway but, I was running about an hour and a half late and thought I might miss out on Martins Pirelli Tour.

I just went straight to Portpatrick instead and ticked off the Lifeboat Station Challenge Point there...

5.thumb.jpg.30ebcbe8cfbceeb68012012fbb998485.jpg

...Lucky to catch the boat manoeuvring and smile at how the weather was panning out.

I headed towards Carlisle then and stopped off at another Challenge Point on the way.

Gretna's a pretty little place but ever so commercialised.

There was a ceremony at Gretna Green just ending as I arrived.

The entourage suggested it wasn't a runaway couple getting hitched.

I arrived at my digs in good time just minutes before Don (aka Kawasaki Kid) came along.

We settled into our top floor room at the Cartref B&B.

It was very good accommodation at a reasonable price.

I had time for a quick shower before @mhirst121 pitched up in his car to pick us up for the factory tour.

We then picked up @Philmak73 and @freddy01 before heading straight to the factory.

Having spent my formative working years as an apprentice in an electro/mechanical environment I was quite intrigued with the whole operation.

I hadn't much idea at all on how motor tyres were produced and some of the process's were a bit of an eye opener.

So, thanks to Martin for arranging that!

Martin chauffeured us to a local Golf Club for our evening meal where we all got to know our real-life selves a little better.

A very nice evening!

The riding bit of our meet up commenced on time (well almost) on Saturday morning and Martin led us on a southward bound out-'n-back sort of a figure 8 route from Carlisle at its most northward to Broughton-in-Furness at its most southerly point.

map.thumb.JPG.6caa4224a2a7e74bb38dcc42765f8d83.JPG

A great deal of it was on twisty, narrow roads and laneways which was a total pleasure for yours truly and...the high altitude sections were a joy to stop and ponder.

I even got the opportunity to bag another (and for me, foreign) Challenge Point.

At one point in the afternoon we stopped for a stretch and a cuppa at Broughton where there was a meet up of vintage and veteran bikes.

I was scanning for a gap between the fine old machinery to get my bike parked when some auld veteran rider started beckoning me to steer through a gap between vehicles.

I thought he looked vaguely familiar but it wasn't until I got stopped and de-helmeted when it dawned on me...

What a wonderful surprise to meet up close 'n personal....   James@Popeye45

What a very good do indeed!

James rode a very considerable distance to meet up just briefly with fellow club members.

It was an unexpected hi-lite for me on that days ride out and we were all really chuffed he'd made that effort.

Great to meet you James!

14a.thumb.jpg.54d75ccf01020803e15f8c83cab0a407.jpg

I think we got a wee bit behind our loose schedule but what a lovely days riding we enjoyed.

@Gazversys1000se Gaz has the occasional moan-on-forum about his s##te handling z1000se but I can witness the he's not too shabby at all on those twisty bits.

18.thumb.JPG.12adb46c3d04d4e45701d7d5e7dd9c8b.JPG

@freddy01was another member I'd only known up on-line up until now and it was a pleasure to make his acquaintance even though his behaviour's sometimes a bit, well, a tad off-kilter...

15.JPG.10ab926825c9e5acfcfd77207e64ad55.JPG

The rest of the riding day was also superb and along the way I got pretty impressed when I found myself behind Don's @Kawasaki Kid Versys 300 on a longish open stretch.

I wont mention his speed 'cept to say it was a bit of a percentage over and above the upper national legal limit.

Our dinner that evening was at Michelangelo's Italian Restaurant in Carlisle.

A grand choice there @mhirst121.   A lovely place to eat if you like good Italian grub, very reasonable prices as well.

Sunday saw us off on a northerly bound circular route out 'n back from Carlisle...

map2.thumb.JPG.47abe296a8295a3d579c4c816da6fff4.JPG

Well, that was a bit of a contrast to the previous days riding which included what Martin described as 'The local race track.'

What a spin that was on that l-o-n-g uphill wonderfully twisty-turny section with some sharp 'n tight bends and a few nice sweeping curves.

Exhilarating.

I was chuffed at how my T7 handled the tight and flowing sections alike.  I think I'd like to do it again with some more road-oriented tyres fitted.

We stopped at a Bikers Cafe' and their menu was pretty good.

It was pretty cool on that high ground so a hot cuppa was welcome.

I'd mentioned to Martin that our B&B didn't serve Black Pudding which is a favourite of mine.

Moments later, when partaking of my brew...

...I was presented with this culinary delight:

23.thumb.jpg.d8b03f2eb3988677cf34909066d4aef2.jpg

I should've put a fork or something next to this to indicate the scale of the thing!!!

My word, this bad-boy Black Pudding sausage roll creation was a tasty thing indeed.

I think you might need stenting if you made 'em a habit though.

I got half way through the concoction then, bagged it up and had the other half for lunch.

24.thumb.jpg.09499a54e8917672f648f27303918f49.jpg

Our last evening was spent at a local pub where we had a couple of pints and decent grub in very pleasant surroundings.

Walked from there to meet up with @Gazversys1000se at a nearby Wetherspoon.

I cant go into the details. It's far, far too much to re-tell here but,  if ever you want to laugh till yer ribs ache, treat yourself to a hour or two around a pub table with Gaz.

Thanks for the laughs Gaz.. you were the hi-lite of that evening for sure!

Later in my B&B I went to sleep still grinning.

Got to give @Kawasaki Kid another mention for coming along at short notice and sharing the room at my digs.

Not only did it reduce my costs a good bit but the company was welcome and we found some we'd had some amazingly similar experiences along our lives' way.

I can waffle on a bit and I'm sure the Kid wont mind if I suggest he's a tad similar.

It was like Roy Cropper and his clone were sharing digs.  (Oh, and thanks for the Trail Mag Don. I was reading it last evening and a nice TRF sticker popped out. I'll have that on my top box in short order!)

All good things must end so after goodbyes and 'until-next-times' were exchanged we parted our ways.

I had a little time to kill on my way back to the ferry so took in Galloway that I'd missed on my journey here.

There's some stomping roads around those parts as well.

I even managed a bit of 'off-the-tar' riding.

What a good do...

..What a very good do indeed.

Thanks to @Philmak73   @freddy01  @Gazversys1000se  @Kawasaki Kid for your most enjoyable company and  special gratitude to @mhirst121 for putting this most pleasurable mini-tour together.

This is a nice one for my collection of motorcycling memories.

Personal domestic circumstances mean that this will probably be my last out-of-Ireland excursion.

Certainly for the foreseeable future at any rate so,  it was a good one to end on.

Three week trip from Sweden to enjoy Route Napoleon in late September and early October.

Found a mini winery along the road. Quick sampling and two bottles to the collection.

The “Motorrad” tail bag is the only remaining memory from my BMW days almost 20 years ago. The only thing that was trouble free from back then. Got smarter (or cheaper) and switched to Yamaha in 2004 (XT600, still in my possession), wore out 2 x XT1200 and now enjoying the best of the bunch, the T7.

Made a little trip over The Bulge this weekend. Beautiful fall colors, but slippery roads due to all the wet leaves. Spotted some remnants from the visit of our eastern neighbors in the previous century. Took a little break at the ESA satellite ground station.
