What have you done for your T7 today?

I have a Scottoiler V-System arriving today that I hope to install later or at the weekend. Wasn't going to bother but it will take the hassle out of remembering to lube the chain and I managed to snag a new one for £55, so can't complain.

I love my Tutoro.  The tough choice is, do you want to have the outlet at the rear sprocket, or the front?  I've always done the rear sprocket thing, but for the T7 I've decided I'd rather do the front and get that extra potentially snag grabbing tubing  away from the rear swingarm.  Probably won't change it till something grabs it though 🙂

I did the singel rotor conversion, if you're the kind of person who like everything in mint like brand new condition and you cannot handle horror movies i'll advice you to skip this post.
First i had to wash the bike and i made a "before" picture of the standard setup.
IMG_20230204_111906.jpg.0023b889609a98a0ee212a4098b1912c.jpg

Then i went to work with this as a result.

Have to change the bolts i put in to protect the threads for buttonheads but i was out of those so i have to shop at work.
Before i end up with this i had some cleaning to do, this is the left after cleaning and the right that i will clean another day to store it. The left looked the samen except for the adapter.

IMG_20230205_113709.jpg.d04a9a06d81f87aa0c6b21756368371c.jpg

The rear was not different.

Yes i ride in winter with salt so i can't get it better than that but tomorrow evening you probably don't see it any more.
The disc was just as worse. It was ready for replacement and the pads where completely gone but because i had the parts for a complete change and a rear ABS delete rode the last 2 weeks until i had the time to do the work. I had to admit i didn't know the pads where this bad.

IMG_20230205_165507.jpg.7e1f355efe0ce71124576800fa9d2795.jpg

And this is how the rear ended up.

All the hard lines to the ABS pump are gone. I will make a blog about it on my own site with the weights of what went on and came off plus the calculations what the weight saving is but that's for the upcoming week somewhere.
Tomorrow the first ride, have to be careful as everything is new and have to wear in. I know myself so i put a sticky note to the dash to remind my sleepy self.

Nice job.

Did you have to trim the ABS ring a bit to work with that front rotor?

Looks like you got your moneys worth out of that rear rotor. So dirty it doesn't even look like it was working anymore, LOL.

Be interesting to see where you end up with a front MC.  The one I swapped to has plenty of power and is nicely progressive which I prefer in dirt but may try one slightly larger than what's installed now to firm up the lever slightly. Haven't made up my mind yet.

I had to Dremel a bit on the disc at the boltholes if the ABS ring.

The rear pads where completely gone and braking depended how the dirt was piled up haha.

First test ride today with new fork internals (Tractive).

Only onroad, so the cartridges can't really show what they're capable of.

The front felt a bit harsh/stiff at first - expected a smoother ride. The quicker I got, the smoother they felt, so I decided to set a little less compression damping. While doing that, I noticed I had set it to 9 clicks accidentally (default is 10 for all settings). Moving to 11 clicks really made a big difference. Front now was silky smooth on single bumps and potholes and still very planted on consecutive ones. I was aiming for every little imperfection on the tarmac 😂

Since now I had a better setup for the front, I noticed the rear to be a bit harsh on potholes and bumps hit with speed. So I set the high speed comp to 11 as well. Spinal Tap taught me this is always better 😁

Much smoother now at the rear, too. Previously I only had the rear shock installed, the stock fork was clearly the limiting factor.

I'll check preload later after this short break-in ride. Looking forward to better weather for some more systematic tests.

any chance your brake pedal was hanging up causing you to wear the pads out? How many miles did you get to the rear pads?

With my setting speedbumps are smoother at high speeds.

@NeilW I cant easily tell how many km because i changed my pads before my big trip in July and put the old ones back later and these are the ones that where gone completely but it should be about 16 - 17.000km.
The ones i put in before the trip lasted almost 13.500km and may had a little left.

I bet you told your suspension dealer to take the usual mud coating into account when he calculated the spring rates 😁

@Tenerider 9 and 11 clicks from full clockwise or full counterclockwise?

Full clockwise (as stated in the Tractive manual). Their zero position is always the first click from fully closed (cw).

I think clicks are mostly counted from the fully closed needle valve position (=max damping). As most seem to use normal right-hand threads for the needle valves, it's counted from fully clockwise.

The Yamaha designation "hard-soft" is confusing for me.

I wish we had any cool events like that here in the States.  We have events (sort of) but they have to be very careful what they call them and they are usually very informal and small because bigger outfits won't even try to put an event together here with all the red tape and hurtles bigger event entails and basically none in the eastern half of the county except small scale stuff.

I thought the US were not much better in acceptance of trail riding, but also in offroad events!

There is a of of trail riding and plenty of offroad events/races but in terms of a long distance Rally type events there are none to speak of that I know of.  There are only a couple of point to point races out west yet they are one day deals. Multi-day point to point events just don't seem to exist here for some reason.

Cyclops aux lights and CamelAdV Brake Fix went on today.  The brake fix is a game changer - especially off road.

Just a "like" isn't sufficient.  You chose two excellent products to enhance your ride. Good for you! I can ride a 75mph at night and see to stop with the Cyclops and I am not losing my rear brake anymore due to the FIX! Thank you Cyclops and thank you Camel ADV

From where did you get your Aux lights? I would quite like a pair.
