I just ordered the Tusk racks and top plate......great price, quite adaptable, and I had the same set up on my KTM 690 Enduro R.

For the current time, I am just planning on running a small tank bag and my decent sized Ogio tail bag on the Tusk top rack.

Take whatever you need on your next adventure, be it a day on the open road or a weekend at the in-laws. Eight 16oz beer cans fit without a problem.

Tusk Pannier Racks are perfect for all your motorcycle adventure needs. If you have a Dual Sport Motorcycle and need to haul extra gear, Tusk Pannier Racks have you covered. Made from tough ¾' powder-coated steel tubing, these racks are made to hold up. The 4-point mounting system and 'bumper support' that links both sides, ensures strength while providing protection...

Can you show some pics of the width? Also how does the top plate mount? Need a separate rack system?

I will post a few pictures when they arrive and are bolted on.

LuceT7, is that how you run, with Large on chain side and smaller on exhaust side? Will the Large bag not fit on the exhaust side, and what size are they?

I like the SW-Motech frames, very minimalist when the bags are removed. 👍

Cheers

Yes indeed! Super light too!

To be honest I didn't try to mount them other way around yet. Will check on that 🙂 I bought it the way it is, as it was the only "dedicated" set they had in offer at a time, so I thought this is the only solution with that oem exhaust. Now I can see they have various sets including 30/30 systems so probably it's not the case. 🙂

15l bag is 32,5 x 15,5 x 36,5 cm / 12.8 x 6.1 x 14.4 in

10l bag is 32,5 x 13,0 x 26,0 cm / 12.8 x 5.1 x 10.2 in

Tusk rack, top plate, and Harbor Freight Apache 2800 hard case install.......update.

The Tusk racks, top rack, and removable side plates arrived today and were installed. Very good quality with clear, concise instructions made for an easy install. I also installed the Harbor Freight Apache 2800 hard cases + my Ogio tail bag to carry stuff needed off the beaten track. The mounted racks are 23.5” wide and with the Apache 2800 cases the width is 35”.

Thanks! Assuming those were extra?

They were included with the rack and top plate.....everything for $169.99.   I had plenty of extra bolts, nuts, and washers after doing the install.

15 years ago I bought some Richa soft bags for around 50-60€.

The very first day I ended up dragging them around 2km on tarmack. Only a minor repair was needed. It was my fault.

After 15 years and maaaany km those 50€ bags system remains water tight.

For these reason I cannot justify spending close to 10% of the bike's purchase price on bags.

I plan on getting a rear rack to gain space (SW motech or Shad) and clipping points for a top roll and probably the AS side plates just because they look light and keep the bike as narrow as possible.

Hi everyone

I took the plunge and bought the yamaha rear rack which attaches to the original explorer pack side pannier rails.

Because it already is set up with the monokey plate you have no additional cost of buying an adaptor plate.

However I went for the Givi 42l Trekker Outback top box which match the original yamaha explorer panniers. Saved £128 on the top box and £80 because no base plate.

Ebay NativeVikking in UK sell all the Givi range and the top box was only £232.00

Came with a key and lock already fitted so save another £25.00 not having to buy yamaha key set.

Happy safe riding to all.

I decided to try a different rack with my Mosko backcountry bags ordered and installed the touratech racks

much better I think, could be a inch lower but over all I think a better option for the mosko bags   have the outback motortek racks that if anyone wants   $180.00+ shipping there 210.00+shipping from Mosko  only on the bike for a few weeks like new.  message me if interested.  will post some pic's of the new racks

@alpha 1Location added to your profile might help sell them and posting in Classifieds.  😉

Hi buddy

the panniers protection rubbers is a non slip for my drinkies when i take them camping.

in terms of quality they look great and used them a few times. If i off road i take the Magadans as wont mark if i drop them.

the plastic cappings are only cappings:) im not sure how i would compare against touratech or burmot. I would imagine the last two names are built with long distance RTW in mind. Will take some more pics if that helps.

ok looking ar them i would definitely  say these are only weekend or light use boxes. But are pretty light. Burmots or Zega  pro or soft luggage would be the way to go. However Less stress on the bike with soft as taking a spill with heavyweight ally boxes can bend frames as it can on any bike.

Matt, thanks so much for posting the pics. They really helped. For my type of touring, I want to be able to leave stuff on the bike unattended and the boxes are more of a deterrent to thieves than soft luggage. Looks like Burmot is the way to go. I have a built in “I’m being ripped off” reflex with Touratech after the amount of money I spent with them when I had the big GS. The panniers were actually custom, not Touratech, with a really strong frame and protected the bike (and me) during a number of spills.

Anyone able to comment here at all please? I'm guessing someone must have luggage.

I have hard cases on my Tenere S10 1200.  They are Happy Trails with racks also.  Lots of miles, many crashes, 9000 mile trip to Prudhoe Bay and back.  Not expensive and built solid  Teton Clif cuts.  Highly recommended.  For the T7 I am goign to try MoskoMoto Backcountry 25 liters.  Love the engineering of their product

Installed the xs 6.5 and must say it is a very nice piece of kit... Feels very well built and it had nice strapping system... Used the 4 points yamaha has kindly provided to secure to the bike. Straps come with holes and reinforced stitches around the hole.

Look forward to seeing some of the blizzard luggage with owners and getting them for longer trips.

I am not a big fan of racks on the back of my bike although there is a light one that has caught my eye.

I might design something similar but longer at the back.

I saw this one but wondered how one got the seat off without removing the rack.  I like the fact that the load is not way out over the back

  • 2 weeks later...

I just received my tusk panniers and top plate, all looks very good quality and robust. The bike looks so good without them but I need a locking topbox as I ride every day and it's too handy not to have. The price is so good with panniers it almost doesn't make sense to only get the rear top plate really. They should also provide a certain amount of crash protection for the exhaust and rear plastic. When I do long trips I like to do almost 50% between camping and hotel so it's very nice to have the panniers to easily bring all the camping gear when staying at a hotel. Otherwise I'd prefer to keep the bike sleek and slim..

@vagrant318. I'm interested in using the Tusk rear rack in conjunction with my Mosko R40 bags.  Could you throw a tape measure on the red lines and post a measurement?   (Outside of rack arms to seat & rear of seat to front of rack)  Also looking at mounting a Rotopax to it, behind the Mosko rear attachment straps. Thanks heaps.
